Case Study: Creating in Community with Docuseries A TOWN CALLED VICTORIA
Registration For This Event Has Ended

Learn about community-centered filmmaking practices with the director of A TOWN CALLED VICTORIA.

Overview

The Gotham is excited to welcome director Li Lu for a case study about the making of A Town Called Victoria and the many ways that community-centered practices were central to the creation of the docuseries. Join us for an informal conversation about the ways that the filmmakers gathered organizational allies and community support to get A Town Called Victoria made, how the team intentionally built its crew to reflect the story's themes, preserving ethical interactions with the subject community, and how the series is now engaging with all communities in the form of an impact campaign following its broadcast/streaming premiere on PBS' Independent Lens.

When the local mosque is burned to the ground in an apparent hate crime, the town of Victoria must overcome its age-old political, racial, and economic divides to find a collective way forward.

"A Town Called Victoria" is a co-production of Reel South, Independent Lens, and the Center for Asian American Media.
