Overview

Want to build a successful career in branded content filmmaking? In this two-session Gotham Class, award-winning director B. Monét—who has worked with such brands as Levi's, Crate & Barrel, Estée Lauder, Uber, and Hyundai, as well as personalities including Reese Witherspoon, Janet Jackson, and Rosario Dawson—will guide you through the skills and strategies needed to land commercial work, collaborate with agencies, and establish yourself in the industry.

Through real-world case studies, hands-on exercises, and an interactive pitch session, you'll learn how to navigate creative calls, craft compelling treatments, pitch with confidence, and secure branded content jobs. You'll also explore long-term career strategies, innovative outreach methods, and ways to stand out in a competitive market. Whether you're new to branded content or looking to level up, this workshop will provide the insider knowledge to turn directing branded content into a sustainable career.

Instructors

B. Monét
B. Monét is a distinguished multi-disciplinary artist who obtained her B.A. in English from Spelman College and an MFA in Film and Television with a concentration in Writing and Directing from NYU. In 2019, she became the first African American woman to direct and star in a Cadillac commercial. Additionally, she directed a branded short film, "She’s Revolutionary,” about the #MeToo founder Tarana Burke for Levi’s and Girlgaze. Monét was also chosen as one of the winners of the Queen Collective in partnership with Queen Latifah, Tribeca, and P&G. Her short film, "Ballet After Dark", is exclusively streaming on BET. Her first feature documentary, BLACK GIRLS, celebrates Black women and girlhood, featuring voices like Allyson Felix, Marley Dias, and Alex Elle; the film is exclusively streaming on Comcast’s Black Experience on Xfinity, Peacock, X1, Xumo, and Flex. Most recently, she had the opportunity to be one of the filmmakers involved in The Next Generation Narratives at Warner Bros., where she reimagined A STAR IS BORN for modern audiences, exclusively streaming on MAX, allowing a new generation to connect with its timeless themes.
